Here is some more information

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms range from mild to severe but typically appear between 2 to 14 days after exposure these include:

  • Fever (which may not be present in the very young or very old, or immunocompromised)
  • Uncomplicated upper respiratory symptoms (Cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, malaise, headache, muscle aches)
  • Difficulty breathing

Advice on staying healthy:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Say hello from a distance instead of shaking hands.
  • Avoid touching your face. It may prove harder than you think, so keep your hands in pockets or consider holding a wadded up napkin in your hands when out and about.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water regularly. Alcohol hand sanitizers are also effective
  • Stay home when you are sick (and keep sick children home from school).
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow. If you use a tissue, throw it away after use and wash your hands afterwards.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. Human coronaviruses can live on inanimate surfaces like metal, glass or plastic (think your mobile phone, keyboard, countertops, credit cards - you name it!) for up to 9 days! Studies found that the following can inactivate human coronaviruses:

  • 62-71% ethanol alcohol
  • 0.5% hydrogen peroxide
  •  0.1% sodium hypochlorite (i.e., bleach)

The incubation period is thought to be 2-14 days, with a median incubation period of 4 days. Patients are thought to be most contagious when they are symptomatic. However it may have an incubation time of up to 19 days.
